After a carabao cup loss by west ham in midweek , a match largely controlled by Manchester United despite a few of the starting eleven either not making the line-ups or not featuring in the game at all, the United team needed a quick response and the game at Old trafford against a well-organised Dean Smith’s Aston villa’s side was a much needed win for the hosts.

United, coming from a run of two losses in three matches, this match was a needed wim for the Ole Gunnar Solksjaer who is bent on retaining his job as there are circulating rumours of the Glazers lining up a move for Antonio Conte to replace him at the managerial duties.

The match started with world class five time ballon d’or winner, Ronaldo leading the line upfront once more, something he has done since his second arrival to the Club.

The match was largely dominated by the home side, though both teams hit the target a good number of times to make the game all squared out and hence, could go either ways

However, It was Aston Villa who grabbed a 1-0 victory at Old Trafford on Saturday as the Red Devils’ helpless late run extended to three losses from their last four games

United’s frontline of Ronaldo, Martial and young Mason Greenwood were relatively quite as they scarcely troubled the Villa’s goal keeper, Emiliano Martinez who was a scarcely used former Arsenal’s goalie.

Rather it was Mason Greenwood who was the most splendid of the front three here, as his immediate runs permitted him to get behind the Villa back line routinely, however even he was unable to help his side find a breakthrough.

Ronaldo, who rejoined the club during the summer’s transfer window couldn’t hit a single shot on goal as his total of four shots were all off target.

United pressured but a resillent and well compacted villa’s backline helped kept the match even.

Thus when Kortney Hause’s header beat David de Gea from a 88th-minute corner, it was close to what Dean Smith’s side merited.

Raphael Varane has been gotten to strengthen the back line, and has looked strong and formidable since his arrival from Real Madrid, yet they actually need to annihilate little errors in case they are genuinely going to contend for major silverwares this season.

United were lacking a creative play which haunted them so much as having one would have given them a more direct play.

“Bring on Cavani,” was the serenade from United faithfuls with 10 minutes left on the clock, yet when the Uruguayan was introduced with seven minutes to go, he was unable to have the effect Solskjaer required to bring the game in their favour.

Luck shined on the home side as they were awarded a stoppage time penalty after Hause appeared to have handled the ball in his own half.

Bruno Fernandes stepped up to take the preciding spotkick and an opportunity to level things up and rescue a point for his team but he had other plans as he missed the resulting penalty kick much to the disappointment of the fans.

Bruno blasted the ball over the bar with Ronaldo looking on from the edge of the space.

Thus, the match ended in favour of Aston villa.
