Snaps are destroyed immediately after being viewed, whereas tales vanish after 24 hours. This is how Snapchat operates, which is one of the reasons so many people enjoy using it. However, certain Snaps and Stories are so fantastic that you never want them to disappear.
Unfortunately, Snapchat does not allow you to save them on your device, and the sender will be notified if you capture a screenshot of their work. Although the method is not as straightforward as hitting a download button, it is still possible to save Snaps and Stories to an Android device. We also demonstrate how to save your own Snapchats and Instagram Stories.
How to save Snapchat videos
Using a screen recorder software on your phone is the best way to save Snapchat videos. Not an ideal solution, but it does the job. We recommend AZ Screen Recorder (download available below), but there are lots of other comparable programs available.
Launch the application after installation. On-screen, a floating icon will appear. Next, launch Snapchat, tap the floating AZ Screen Recorder symbol, select the Camera icon, and push Start now. Launch the Snapchat video you wish to capture immediately. To stop recording, pull down the notification shade and hit the Stop button; the video will then be stored on your device.
Step-by-step instructions on how to save Snapchat videos:
- Download AZ Screen Recorder from the Play Store.
- Launch the app once installed.
- The app will ask for permission to display its content over other apps. Allow it.
- A floating icon will appear on your screen.
- Open Snapchat on your device.
- Tap the floating AZ Screen Recorder icon and select the Camera icon to start recording.
- Select Start now.
- Open the Snapchat video you want to capture.
- Let it record.
- Pull down the notification shade and tap the Stop button to stop recording. You can also use the floating icon.
Other methods
If you find this procedure too cumbersome, there is an alternative you can attempt. You can play the Snapchat video on your phone and record it with another device, such as a phone, iPad, or point-and-shoot camera. It is not the optimal option, but it is quick and simple.
If you want to save your own Snaps, the process is much simpler. Prior to sending a Snap, it is advisable to tap the Save button in the bottom-left corner of the screen. After a Snapchat Story has gone live, you can save it by playing it, tapping the three-dot menu button in the upper-right corner, and selecting Save. Simply swipe up on the camera’s display to access your saved creations. Additionally, it should be in your camera roll.
How to save your own snaps:
- Open Snapchat.

- Tap on the Save button.
- Now you can access it in your Snapchat gallery.
How to save your own Snapchat Story:
